The physics of grief

I never took physics but I’ve always been good at math. I know enough about physics to know about the conservation of energy. It can neither be created nor destroyed. While you may lose one thing you have the memories and the learnings that you take on for a lifetime—just in a different form. It might be that smile she gave you. The way you laugh. An annoying habit. Some stupid inside joke that will make you laugh forever. Or maybe if you’re lucky she copied your idea to give her letters to read with certain topics. If the house was burning that’s one of the few things I’d grab. When I miss her presence I still have those. I’ll always have memories too. She gave me so much. It’s my turn to stop taking and give back twice as much to make up for it. Whether it’s long division or common core the answer will still be the same.
